Craig Dabelstein has been the principal conductor of the Queensland Wind Orchestra since July 2004. He is responsible for musical direction of the ensemble and selection of concert programs. Craig makes an enormous contribution to the orchestra, above and beyond the requirements of his role as conductor, and the committee is extremely grateful for his enthusiasm and talent. A short biography is below.

Craig Dabelstein commenced piano studies at age seven and took up the saxophone at age twelve. He has Bachelor of Arts (Music) and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Craig held the principal alto and tenor saxophone chairs in the Australian Wind Orchestra and has toured nationally and internationally. He has been an augmenting member of the Queensland Pops Orchestra, the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and The Queensland Orchestra. For many years Craig was a member of the Queensland Saxophone Quartet and has been a saxophone teacher at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He is currently the saxophone teacher and Coordinator of Bands at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. |
